internet only works in safe mode

im running Windows XP professional and comcast high speed internet. my problem is that the internet only works in Safe Mode. i have no clue why this is, comcast told me that my tcp/ip stack is corrupted and i need to call Microsoft because its not their problem anymore...please help

In safe mode, download, update and run AdAware and AVG. Virus or NastyWare of some sort would be my first suspicion. Then have a look at what is actually starting up on your computer when it runs normally - search for startupcpl from Mike Lin. Remove anything which you either do not recognise or you can see is not essential. Now try it.
If this fails, it might be a problem with the TCP/IP stack. I would have a go removing everything vaguely related to TCP/IP from Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs | Add or Remove Windows Components. Then reboot and reinstall these components from your XP CD-ROM.
