I had recently done a system restore and my internet stoped working on another computer I have, and when it loaded up it acted like my router/ cat 5 cable dont even exist! I picked the option to undo the restore but to no avail. It still wont run. Any ideas?

Id rather die on my feet then live on my knees.

To clarify?

You have two PCs and a router (more correctly an access-router) that allows each PC to access the internet?

Everythings "was" OK - until for whatever reason... you did a system restore one on PC; and then one (or is it both) PC cannot now access the internet?

Do you have a NIC (Network Interface Card) in either/both PC; or are you using wireless to connect to the router?

Can you see the router on either PC?

Is the problem PC using a cat-5 connection or wifi to the router?

Yes, its using a cat-5. I've tried to run commands like IPconfig amd ping, but when I run it the command window closes within a second of me opening it so im unable to do anything but sit there a try to not puch the screen and destroy my whole computer. :|

xmusicxmanx You may want to try downloading and running WinSock XP Fix on the problem computer. Download it to a floppy or CD then transfer it to the problem computer's hard drive and run it. It's Free at the link below.

ipconfig /all is run from within a dos box - otherwise it will flash up and go away...

Start\run\cmd (or cdm.exe) gives you the dos box. Then you type the ipconfig /all and ping commands accordingly.

And as Tufenuf advises you my have winsock problem...

Wow, when I try to download it to a cd my IE restarts! It says my Mcafee total protection is doing something and it restarts it. Well what im about to do ( wich may sound drastic) is erase everything from my HD. This problem also goes hand in hand with my other post of the HD disk boot faliure, I was trying to replace the HD because this computer with no internet connection has had a LOT of problems, I have windows xp (new), and all my important file on a sandisk usb drive. Thanks for all your guy's help. Now any one know how to erase everything? I downloaded The secure Erase program from here: http://cmrr.ucsd.edu/Hughes/SecureE... and one know of a better/ faster way to do it?

If you want to re-install XP to that drive... just pop in the XP CD; boot up to it and run setup. It will (or ought to) offer to reformat the targeted partition (the one to which you intend to re-install the OS). Let it do so etc...

If you have MacAfee Internet Firewall (or whatever they call - total protection? - or a similar util) installed then it is likely you have not set its programme options to allow IE to connect the www? Rather than instantly go the drastic path of a reformat etc..., first have a look at the programme control options in the MacAfee util and see it that is the situation you have?

Yeah ill try it first the thing is that McAfee wont work without an update and I cant get the update with out internet, also I cant uninstall it. Go figure, theres also really messed up things happening. So ill try it first and if not then Ill just reformat. Thanks for the tip.

If the MacAfee update is downloadable (as a file - zip or otherwise)... perhaps download it via another PC; transfer to a usb or cd etc. and install it on the problem PC that way? But first see if you can adjust programme control option to allow IE to access www.
