Hi, I have a router hooked into my cable box that I got from my ISP. However I no longer wish to use it, but when I try and hook my internet cord (the one coming out of my computer) directly into the cable box it does not work. What am I doing wrong?
Thank You

Tim
I had a similar problem several years ago. I believe the solution was turning off the computer and turning off the router. Shut down, leave off for a few minuters. Then turn on router and boot up computer. That should do it, I hope.

Mind if I ask why you no longer wish to use it? Did you know that the router is your best defense measure?

You may need to call your ISP and tell them what you wish to do and ask them to reset the settings on their end so that you ISP will pick up the mac address of the nic on your computer. I'm pretty sure that right now all it wants to see is the mac address of the Lan port on your router. That would be why you can't connect.
I would also concur with XpUser, in that your router is a very good firewall, and you are better off keeping the router on play.
Hope this helps.

open a command prompt (start->run->cmd)
type: ipconfig /release
then type: ipconfig /renewYour PC is probably trying to get its ip/dns/etc from the router still, so you need to have it try to renew its ip and thus grab an ip from your isp.
And yes, even if I only had one pc, I'd still use a router to take advantage of its hardware nat/firewall
