Hiya,
I have a problem with internet explorer. It won't load pages. I use a wired connection and it shows in the taskbar as being connected. Also, I downloaded a network utility tool from microsoft, aWindowsXP-KB914440-v12-x86-ENU, and it tells me that it could be the firewall settings.
So, I call up my ISP and they tell me that they don't support that.
So I go to windows firewall, deselect everything in exceptions, restart, and find that everything that was unchecked is now checked, AGAIN!
The option for exceptions are as follows,
DHCP Discovery Service
File and Printer Sharing
Network Diagnostics for Windows XP
Pure Netwrks Platform service
Remote Assistance
Remote Desktop
UPnP FrameworkThe boxes checked are the DHCP Discovery Service, Pure Networks Platform Service, and the UPnP Framework.
When I check the laptop adapter for the wired connection, it list that the connection uses the following items:
Client for Microsoft Networks
File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
QoS Packet Scheduler
Pure Networks Device Discovery Driver
Pure Netwrks Wireless Driver
AEGIS Protocol(IEEE802.1X)v3.2.0.3
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)I use a cable high speed connection that is run through a DIR 655 Wireless 'N' router.
Under the Authentication Tab the first 2 of 3 boxes are checked...
Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for the network (Smart Card or other Certificate)
Authenticate as computer when computer information is available.
Any ideas on where to start on this? Anything obvious to you that may be giving me problems?

Question 1:
I have a problem with internet explorer.
Which IE? IE6? IE7? IE8 Beta?
Question 2:
You stated your ISP does not support M$ Network Diagnostic Tool. Are you absolutely certain they fully support D-Link 802.11n router? Just in case you didn't know, the IEEE 802.11n standards still has not been ratified as of this date.
i_Xp/VistaUser

I use 6 & 7. Both don't seem to work well. Right now I am using 7, as I have upgraded recently and have gotten used to it. I tried it last year and was not too thrilled. The problem being that the network icon says that it is connected, the shortcut to Internet connecion that I created a shortcut from the Network Connections window, won't sometimes enable.
I can usually fix all problems by just reseting the router, but due to the placement it is a great inconvience.I live at home and someone is on the phone. But ususally I can use it Saturday mornings, to phone the Dlink customer service.
Well, the MS Network utility stated that it was a fault with the Firewall.
But lately I have just been right clicking on the taskbar icon and selecting repair then I made a shortcut from the Network connections window for a Shortcut to Internet Connection icon and I enable that.
Then I wait, sometimes it works, sometimes I have to use the wireless device then switch to the wired once it is running.
Seems to work more than not, so that is how I have been doin it for the past few days.I called into the Dlink customer support, and they made me manually input some TCP/IP numbers, so that got rid of the network icon with the little yellow triangle that had a question mark in it.
Now I am hoping to get a more reliable connnection.
I use a Asoka powerline connection to run from one side of the house to the next.
I haven't mentioned anything about that though, because because, I don't want to get into that right now.
So the answer to the router question is no, they do not. My cable isp provider asked me to contact the router support and that they do not service windows problems only hardware issues to the modem. Once it is connected to a router, then it is the router people that I will have to eventually call if I can figure it out.
Any ideas?

"Also, I downloaded a network utility tool from microsoft, aWindowsXP-KB914440-v12-x86-ENU, and it tells me that it could be the firewall settings".
"Well, the MS Network utility stated that it was a fault with the Firewall".which firewall windows or the routers? or any other software firewall? how about disabling them to see if it solves the problem?
