Im connecting my computer with a mate, through a switch. My Computer (host) has 2 NIC's one connecting to the modem and one to the switch. My friend is connecting to the switch through his NIC. We are connecting via Ethernet. However i (host) can get on the net fine and do everything normal. However on his computer is says he is connected however he cannot go onto Internet Explorer or MSN Messenger and the likes. He can however connect to Kazaa Lite (P2P) and successfully download from there. This has me confused, as well as the net problem we cannot share files, we are sharing our drives but cannot get through because of permission errors.

If anyone can help us get onto IE or share each others files, please help.

BTW i cant afford a router so that is out of the question.

Cheers - Andrew

If by modem you mean a dial up connection.

connect his computer to the switch
turn on your ics wizard, and run it on your machine (server),
then run it on his machine, (client)

reboot and wait a couple minutes, poof.

the problem of this setup is,, your machine has to be on for his machine to get your address, and your machine will send the interent pages to him.

I think that your problem is the twin cards. It seems that I remember somewhere down the way that you cannot use two cards as they conflict with eachother.
I believe that you use the lan between pc's without the switch and hook up the host pc to the modem with a usb cable. Then run the network wizard to turn your pc into a server.
But as Temperal stated..your pc must be on first and remain on at all times that the other pc accesses the net.

If your using XP you should right click on your internet connection in 'Network Connections'choose properties and share it.
Permision errors - Right click on My Computer choose mangage > select the guest account and set a password on it. Do it on both pcs and of course right click folders > choose properties to set up your shares.

Hey, its not quite as easy as connecting two PC's and expecting them to connect to the net, read this: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;306126

You dont really need to use a switch, you just need to use some UTP cable to make a simple p2p connection then configure ICS as above.

As 'temperal72' said you do have to leave your workstation on for him to be able to connect to the net AND when he's browsing the net be aware that he IS useing YOUR bandwidth.
