Internet Explorer won't open

I was started using Mozilla Firefox recently. I would still also open and use Internet Explorer. Both would open just fine. Then, as of a few days ago when I double click on my Internet Explorer icon to open it, it won't open at all. My hourglass will appear for about 3-5 seconds. But nothing happens at all. No error pages, nothing. Could someone please tell me what I need to do to get this up and running again. Thank you in advance to anyone who responds.

Try reinstalling Internet Explorer.

Ok. I tried reinstalling Internet Explorer. I went to microsoft.com and downloaded IE6. When I went to install this, it said that a newer version was located on my computer so I couln't install. awwww. I'm sooo fustrated. :-}
