Specs: Windows XP
My niece downloaded a picture for the desktop and it works fine - but I can't find it to put on her computer (she is not on the net). Where do I find this picture? I have looked at every bmp, and jpg in windows.

Firstly let me make sure I am reading you right.

1. You mean Desktop Wallpaper (not Internet Explorer Wallpaper - as per subject).

2. You've download a desktop picture which working fine on a computer.

3. You want to find the saved file so that you can transfer it to another machine to use as wallpaper.

If that's what you mean it should be here:

If the second machine is also XP you need to put it in the same location on there. You then have to select it by right clicking the desktop > Properties > Desktop.

Note that you might have discrepancies when displayed if the two computer screens are not the same ratio.

I have looked but it isn't there. When I go to the control panel /display/desktop the picture I want says "internet explorer wallpaper". I have looked everywhere I know to look and I have searched all files and folders but can't find it. Now we can't find the website to try again, either.
Thanks for trying to help.

Best guess is that you downloaded a zip file which contained wallpaper files.

Presumably the wallpaper is showing on the desktop so if you go to control panel/display/desktop you should be able to find the name of the actual walpaper in use.

I suspect I'm not properly understanding the situation. Maybe someone else will join in who can work it out.

When you do the "Set as Wallpaper" thing, the image that you have right-clicked on is saved in C:\Documents and Settings\YOURNAME\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Internet Explorer Wallpaper.bmp

Aha. Seems I was not aware of the subtlety of "Internet Explorer Wallpaper",
so I'm glad timmycb came along.

Well then, if it is in the location given in #4 then probably you are not set to show hidden files and folders. The folder Application Data is hidden.

Go to Control Panel > Folder Options > View.

Put the blob in "Show hidden files and folders".

Untick "Hide extension for known file types" too.

Apply/OK your way out.

I would recommend you keep these settings anyway.

If you now follow the advice in #4 you should find your file. You will have to carry out the above procedure on the other machine when you move it over and if necessary create any missing folders.
