Frequently (but not always) I get this message when I go onto specific websites:

Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost. Please tell Microsoft about this problem. We have created an error report that you can send to help up improve Internet Explorer. We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous. To see what data this error report contains, click here.

The error report says it includes information regarding the condition of Internet Explorer; the operating system version and computer hardware in use; my Digital Product ID; and the IP address.

When I click to see the technical information about the error report it says, at the bottom, “The following files will included in this error report: C:\DOCUME~1\GINAGI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERC1D.tmp.dir00\appcompat.txt” By the way GinaGi is part of my Log-In.

This problem always happens when I try to go on specific websites, not all websites. I have scanned for viruses about 20 minutes ago, my computer was fine. I tried putting in my Windows XP CD, and re-installing Windows files back to their original versions, but the problem persists. Any answers?

Ie is buggy, maybe try an alternative browser for the sites in question, may I suggest Opera?

btw, do you think it was wise to state what your login is (hopefully was)?

I'm not sure this is a solution, but try using a different browser. Microsoft Internet Explorer is full of security bugs and holes, has no features of interest (e.g. tabbed browsing, pop-up blocking) and is pretty slow. I personally recommend Mozilla Firebird. It's an opensource alternative that is completely free and a tiny download (~6MB)! Just go to http://seb.mozdev.org/firebird and scroll down until you find the Web installer.

If you choose to follow this route, make sure you let Firebird become your default browser. (The icon is brilliant!) Plus, if you want to get Internet Explorer back anytime, just click Start, Run... and type in "iexplore" (without quotation marks).

I hope this helps,

James Greenwood

Why was it not wise to put in my Log-in?

Anyways, I appreciate the help, but does anyone know how to help me with Internet Explorer?

Hi Gina, I suggest you attempt a system repair with the Windows XP CD in the CD-ROM
start>run> type in sfc /scannow

If that still doesn't help, go into the bios force the computer to boot from cd. you can also try chksdk /r (notice space after k) from dos.

BTW if you RECENTLY installed one of the service packs, I think it might be causing a conflict. If that's the case, try uninstalling the recent windows updates you applied, better still do a system restore.
(you did have it ON.. right? :D)

you may wanna try: -

SpyBot S&D

Ad-Aware

Hope That Helps.
