I'm going to a friend's to help them with a problem. They use XP. They can connect to the internet. But Internet Exlorer will not show pages when it opens. It will open though.

I had thought it might be a virus, so I went to make sure that their McAfee was fully updated. But the update wouldn't take place either, it would just give me a "retry" button instead of updating.

I'm not sure if all their internet programs are not working or not.

She is still receiving her emails on outlook express.

If anyone could explain (in a very simple manner) where I need to look for a "third party firewall", then please post that back to me, in case that is the problem.

thanks much, Jeff

Thanks to more reading on this forum.......then surfing out some links.......I finally found her culprit, it was called Xupiter..........I'm still not sure what it was, but when I finally got rid of it, things worked again.
