Internet explorer loads slow

I am running IE6 on a WinXP Home OS. I have a DSL connection.
When I click to run Internet Explorer, the system appears to hang for anywhere between 3-5 minutes. Once IE is loaded, however, I can browse the internet very quickly. However, if I click on a link and say "Open In New Window" (in other words, launch another instance of IE, it will take another 3-5 minutes to load that instance of Internet Explorer.

why haven't you upgraded to IE7? Much better security and loads quickly.
I had a client with a PC where they couldn't even get online with IE6 any more. They had no alternate browser but I loaded on IE7 from my repair disc and they were immediately on-line.

Slowdowns could be the result of activeX hijacking.What antivirus do you use. I recommend both Adaware 2007 and AVG 7.5,both are free. I find that Firefox vs 1.5.10 to be an excellent browser. You could use this one and as is sometimes necessary switch to IE6 when needed. I have used CCleaner for a while, it cleans a variety of areas within the OS as well as tuning the registry. Its free,has no spyware and absolutely works. Good luck
