I had a similair problem once, don't worry about trying to fix it. Since you're running WinXP chances are it wont let you uninstall Internet Explorer. Just Download a new web browser. I recomend Mozilla FireFox, or the latest version of Netscape which I believe is Netscape 7.2.If you cant get online long enough to download a new browser, ask a friend to download one and put it on a disc or diskette for you, they are small files.

I already have Netscape 7 but even when I don't even
open Internet Explorer the error message comes up
eventally. and select send or don't send. the windows
screen goes blank and everything reapears.. When I
go to windows update it searches and just sticks at
that point for ever.

Maybe something in this:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=822350

Service Pack 2 fixes it.
How to Obtain the Latest Windows XP Service Pack
You can order it on CD.
Also I hear that some stores that sell computers
have SP2 on CD to give out.

Have you tried repairing IE by using add/remove programs in the control panel windows components? Select remove IE, and a repair option prompt will appear, then select repair. You can also disable error reporting after you get IE fixed.

On my PC I download Mozilla firefox and thuderbird,
and was vey impressed with them both. Firefox
imported all the bookmarks from my browsers and
thunderbird is superior e-mail app. As I'm having
problems with Internet Explorer, all the time and
firefox is my default browser and they both work
much fasster, I will remove IE. I was so impressed I
downloaded and insalled them on my OSX G4 Apple..
