Internet Explorer error on reboot

Sony Sony viao w series
July 21, 2009 at 16:54:12
Specs: Windows XP, 1.73GHz/1.50GB
On reboot of this XP Laptop, gets a Microsoft Internet Explorer error box. The error is "Cannot find 'file://'. Make sure the path or Internet Address is correct.
The problem is, I cannot find what is trying to open Internet Explorer simply on a reboot.
How can I find and correct this?
Thanks

... try start run (type) regedit [press ENTER]

... then follow this path:

+HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
click folder>>> Run

... in the right pane look for the relevant entry

... option right click delete... But be careful as to what it is ... infact look it up in google first!

I should also state...once the computer is up and running, I can open Internet Explorer with no problem at all. Sorry for leaving that fact out.
