Interesting reading on MS's next browser. . .
It took Microsoft six years to move Internet Explorer versions from 6 to 7. IE8 should be along a little quicker - it is slated for release within two years, less than three years after IE7's October 2006 debut.
But Microsoft has a big, big task on its hands: how to improve support for web standards in IE, without breaking millions of websites. Full standards compliance and backward compatibility do not go hand-in-hand for this web browser, alas.
So, Microsoft is preparing to invite community feedback via a blog on how best to square this circle.

That is right. After bludgeoning its way to try and make its closed formats the standard it has had to bow to the inevitable and accept the open standards.
This is a problem of their own making. There may also be a lot of history here to do with how they locked Netscape out.
I suppose better late than never. I also believe they are going about it the right way. Imaging what would happen if they went off on their own and did the changes and release IE8 to the world.
Instant migration to Firefox I would imagine.
Web authors out there should take note now and start preparing for the event. Keep an eye on the changes they are proposing so as not to be caught out at the last minute to find their website not accessible at worst.
