Internet Explorer 8 Cookies not being saved

November 6, 2010 at 00:47:24
Specs: Windows XP, Pentium D / 4GB
After using my computer all day without any problems (and no changes), I have been unable to browse any sites (e.g., Amazon, Google) requiring cookies to be saved. I log into Amazon successfully, but going to the next page or even the carts shows "Enable Cookies in your Web Browser to Continue." In trying to change my Google preferences, it responds "Your cookies seem to be disabled. Setting preferences will not work until you enable cookies in your browser." All sites seem to be affected. I tried deleting all browser history on IE8, including cookies and temporary internet files. I've even lowered the privacy setting to "Accept All Cookies" to no avail. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Please disregard the previous post. Our Sonicwall was mistakenly set to restrict cookies. Wow, how stupid.

Nothing is really stupid :-) Thanks for posting back with the discovery. FYI if you were using CCLeaner or running InPrivate browsing, cookies will not be saved either.

Thanks. Funny that you mentioned CCLeaner. It was the only application that changed during the day (e.g., installed an update). I was thinking that it some how corrupted IE8 during its cleaning process or the registry during its update. I had never realized how dependent we are on useful cookies in our efforts to get rid of the bad ones.
