hi
i have recently had problems with internet explorer 7. its all uptodate as per microsofts website and has never been a problem until now. the problem is that when ever i try to click on a link / button to download a file, open a new window or run live chat (javascript i think) nothing happens. the current web page wades a little like it should do when you open a new window, but nothing appears. i have tried uninstalling IE7 but when it says removing registry keys, the computer hangs, and then crashes.
the error i get in IE7 is:
the marshalled interface data packet (objref) has an invalid or unknown format.
could this be an IE7 problem, or registry issue? i have tried reverting back to an old restore point too with no luck.
any help would be great!
cheers in advance
baz

I assume that you have a currrent J2SE runtime environment.

What happens when you run a virus scan?

thanks for your reply! ran a virus scan using avast antivirus with all recent updates on and it found nothing. would check to see what java runtime i have but when i click internet properties the box doesnt open up. getting very annoying!
something else i have noticed is when i have had IE open, and then closed it, it doesnt remove itself from the tasks list so its stiull using memory even though the progrtam isnt open. gotta be a corrupt file or virus i reckon...
any other ideas? thought reinstalling it would sort it but cant do that either :(

I had a similar problem and found that it was due to an extra pop up blocker that came with the new explorer. Perhaps you can make sure that all pop up blockers are disabled. Watch the tool panels and lower panel of your window when you try to open new windows.

tried it disabled and no luck. i tried uninstalling it again last night and when it got to the removing registry keys section, it failed. but something i have noticed is that when it gets to that section, if i dont toucch anything it will sit there for ages (i left it for an hour)and when you try to close the window, click start or anything else, it freezes up. no blue screen of death though which is strange.......
im getting really confused!
