Update to IE7. If you don't wanna do that, go to Control Panel, Add or Remove, find IE6 on the list & click remove...the next window that comes up with give you the option to repair IE6. If the repair doesn't work, either reinstall IE6 or update to IE7.

You may need to empty your browser cache. Try running CCleaner.

Lets take a better look at this problem.

Go to Internet Options via the control panel and check your home page. Make sure this is set to something normal. I'd suggest google.com or the default page.

In the Temporary Internet files, click 'Delete cookies' and 'Delete files' you can select offline content and delete that as well. Next click on 'Settings...', in here will be a list of ActiveX componants installed. Any 'unknown' or 'damaged' right click on and select remove.

Now that your done, ok out of that. Right click on 'My Computer' and select explore. You should see a list of drives. Ensure your drives/partitions have enough free space. If your under 15% you should consider deleting some files. Using ATF-Cleaner would be a good tool to do a general cleanup.

Note: If you wish to seek help via web forums you need to have patience. If someone needs you to post a hijack this log WE WILL ASK YOU.

Now, the next time you go to start IE, show some patience. Start it ONCE and wait. HOW LONG BEFORE IT STARTS?

If you overload explorer with multiple browsers and they are having trouble starting up your just going to manifest other problems unrelated to this. So just once and wait. You could also check by unplugging your network connection and starting IE to see if it starts faster.

Good luck.

If you've got CCleaner, that's nearly as good.

ATF-Cleaner is NOT a trojan, but you may have downloaded from a 'non-official' site, which could mean anything.

So, is the problem solved now?

The homepage change is a pretty sure indication you have been hijacked.

Some of the nasties that are capable of do that can be removed with Spybot S&D. You could try that first. It is a good utility at any rate due to its blocking bad sites feature called immunize.

You need to repost in the Security forum and ask there. The folks that populate the Security forum are better qualified.
