I am encountering a very specific problem in dialing up to Internet from my desktop with WinXP.
I have Win XP professional on my Desktop. I am using an external modem GVC Modem (33.6 kbps) SF-1133 V/R. While installing the modem Win XP identified Rockwell PnP driver for the modem and the modem is responding fine. I have also configured the dial up connection. Since I am logging on to the Campus RAS using our Intercom phone line, I have to dial a 4 digit number on Pulse mode.
After doing all necessary settings, when I am dialling, the modem gives an initial beep and then do not dial at all. I tried changing settings like disabling wait for dial tone option, adding an initialising string etc, but didn't solve the problem. I was able to connect earlier with the same modem and desktop but with Win 98. I am also able to connect from my laptop which is on win 2000.
I also noticed that when I connect to my external phone line it is able to dial any PSTN number (its 7 digit number).
It's definitely not an intercom line problem as with Win98 and win 2000 , I am able to dial.
Is there any specific setting or patch required to handle this Intercom pulse dialing.please help me out with your suggestions

Hi, well sry to tell u but I dont thoink anyone here can really help us but what you should do first is visit the page of the company who made your modem and see if they have a patch for win xp or something, if u dont find anything you should call your service provider and ask for help (they usually are helpful) Yeah thats about the only advices I have to give you :) cya

Hi there, I don't know if this is any help but I have found, since upgrading to XP, that my dial-up connection only works if I have my external modem switched on when I boot the computer. I don't know why this is, but I have learned to live with it and have changed my BIOS settings so that I can start the computer by switching on my modem.

I got the solution to my problem of dial up from XP.. Thanks to the message from Victor..It really worked.
For pulse dialing prefix the number with "P"...It really worked. Thanks again victor
