I'm having a problem with my XP Home. I have a cable modem and every once in a while, my connection to the Internet just stops cold. The Task Manager, Networking tab seems to indicate that it's still working. If I go to Network Connections, in the CP, to try to do a Repair on the Local Area Connection, it says something like "Failed to query the TCP/IP connection. Cannot proceed". What does this mean? I can reboot and it'll work again.

BTW, it's not the modem because I can hook it up to another XP computer and it'll work just fine. Does anyone have any ideas why it might be doing this?

You sure its not the modem? The same thing actully happened to be a few days/weeks back. In the end I got cable out like three times to fix it, I belive it was either the modem or the power adaptor to it.

Just check that out first to make fully sure its not that mate.

Well this happened to me (with cox cable internet) and it ended p that something like my router or my comp couldn't handle the ip change that happened every once in a while (htey have it set to dynamic, so people's ip's change evry once in a while).

I don't know, just a suggestion

Good Luck.

Yea, I don't think it's the modem since I can reboot and it'll work just fine once Windows comes back up.

I also have Cox Cable Internet. I notice that even when my IP doesn't change, the problem still happens - connection stops and any attempt to repair it says "Failed to query the TCP/IP settings of the connection. Cannot proceed".
Thanks!
