when newly connected to the internet there is usually a box pops up with the connection speed this has dissapered .how can i get it back.the one you have to click on to get rid off

Sounds like you mean the dial up networking icon. XP has a function whereby it hides inactive icons. To find your hidden icons - click on the little arrows in the bottom right hand corner that are pointing left (like this << ).
To disable this, right click on the Start button. Select Properties. Select Taskbar tab. You will see a section of the menu called "Notification area" and an option saying "Hide Inactive Icons" with a little box to the left of it. Uncheck it so it is blank and click OK.
Hope this helps you. The only other thing I can think is that you are using some third-party software for your Internet connection. In which case contact your ISP for guidance.

sorry thats not what i was speaking about .when i dial up imediatally after dial up the 2 tv screens icons go to the system tray then(and this is the bit im on about)a little window appears about the size of a lets say thumb with a orange x in the corner and it tells you your connetion speed.after youve lookd at it you click the x to shut it .how do i get this back

I lost my bubble today also. It came back after I rebooted. If you hover over the 2 tvs it should give the connect speed and data that has been transfered the amount that is. That Icon is not that accurate I ussualy clock about 20% less than what the icon says

Are you using AOL?
When I bought my new computer it came with one year free AOL. It has not shown the icon you speak of from the first day. After much asking around I was told that this was due to AOL.
