I am using a modem with a local ISP. My problem is that I don't know if I need to make adjustments within the internet connection features in XP to keep a steady online connection.
I had this connection working properly before with the same ISP, but can't remember what features I may have turned off/on to keep a connection.
This is what it is doing... as soon as I log in I am booted off, then if I log in again I continue to get booted off every 2 to 3 minutes (this is frustrating).
Do I need to adjust the fifo buffers (I think that's how it's spelled?) or do I need to do something else?
Now I know that everyone's connection is NOT the same and I realize that it depends upon the ISP and that XP makes all the proper adjustments within starting a new connection. I just need to know if anyone has a idea of what may do this and if I need to turn off/on something.
Thanks

check all the phone lines, inside and out side in the box . theres a loose wire somewhere. that problem is not isp or modem.

kjanx,
Did that already (sorry I didn't mention it) had Verizon out to house last Tuesday to not only check this, but other things.
I live in a area where there is no cable internet, this is why I must use a modem.
Verizon is my phone company, but they do not have the ethernet within my area yet.
I know for a fact that it has to deal with a tweak within XP. I had my ISP send a service man out to fix this when I first started using XP, but now they will not tweak anything unless they get paid for it. There reply is that XP sets everything on it's own and it has nothing to do with their service as long as I am able to connect.

Turn off all background running programmes.
Start....Run....type msconfig.....Delete all programmes that are not required under the 'startup' tab.

Gary Van Put,
Woa... wait a minute. That is not what the problem was before. Like I said the service man made a few tweaks within the internet connection in XP. By turning off items in msconfig this may bring down my system (don't think that's a bright idea).
The problem is, is that there are way to many details/items within XP internet connection to deal with. Windows 98 used to be so nice to work with and easy to configure.

Hi Sprank,
Just a quick thought---
Open your network connections and right click on your ISP. Left click on Properties and go to the Options tab. Under Options tab find " idle time before hangup." Try setting that to "NEVER" and then click OK. See if that helps.
Just a thought,
XDon
