I've got a fishy internet problem that I'm hoping someone can give me an idea of what to do. For awhile I had been using a linksys wireless-B router with a USB wireless-B adapter for connectivity. After some time my internet slowed to a point where downloads would eventually slow to a stop, and never start back up again. Finally I got a brand new Wireless-G router and it fixed everything, I could watch movies without any pause buffering..etc. Anyway, all of a sudden it is exactly back to the way it was, downloads hang up, pages don't completely load..etc. I should also mention I've got Time Warner Cable internet as well as the Cable Phone system so I have the bulky modem that the phone lines/ethernet cables plug into. I dont think the internet was like this before we got the cable phone service but I don't know, anyone know whats up?

That 256mb RAM might have a lot to do with it as WinXP uses about 240mb RAM to start up leaving you with 10mb for internet browsing before having to use the page file that will slow you way down.

I would recommend adding as much RAM as your machine will allow.
www.crucial.com has a Wizard to help you.

Otherwise, I would set Internet Explorer's Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, Security to "Empty temporary internet files folder when browser is closed" and close it every so often when things start slowing down.

Additionally, others may offer more.

The problem occurs exactly the same on my two other machines, a 512mb Celeron and a playstation 3. So I suspect it's either the ISP or the modem, but maybe not!

I have had a similar problem. Internet traffic would slow down to a snails pace and sometimes stop completely. I would power the router/modem off/on and things would return to normal. The problem didn't happen that often, and I just lived with it. It hasn't happened for weeks now.

Hmm, well I have been in that department before, but I results are very temporary, it's gotten to be unacceptable now, resetting the modem and router doesn't do anything for it.
