Intermittent boot failure, and video locks up

Specs: Windows XP Home, not sure 3.6ghz, 4gb ram
ACER Laptop 3.6ghz not sure what is happening. not sure if it has been over clocked. don't know how to check. no beeping occurs. I either fails to boot and when it does boot it freezes/hangs up. It is a laptop that was for sale at a used computer store. It gets as far as the start screen, sometimes it does not even get that far.

Reseat the RAM. Go to the link below to verify installed RAM is compatible ith your motherboard.

you'll have to use the manual search by entering your Laptop info. Look for 3 step process.
