Recently my Intellimouse Explorer has been freezing for about 3 seconds, Windows XP plays a sound indicating a new USB device has been plugged in, then my mouse starts working again. Does anyone have any suggestion about what may be causing this and what could be done to fix it? For the record, it does the same thing in Windows ME and I have all of the lastest drivers installed.

Thanks!

Any other USB devices, printers, scanners etc? If so you may be low on USB power, I'd suggest getting a powered hub.

Same stuff happened to my Explorer. You prob have a short in the cable somewhere check to see if the light flickers every once in a while. If there is a short near the mouse you have to tape the cable to the mouse in a way that it cant move where the short is.

Pretty Tricky,

I also have a USB keyboard and printer, but I had these way before this problem started happening. I'll check to see how much power I have left on my USB ports tonight. I know it's not a weak power supply because I've got an Antec PP352XP which is more than enough for what I have.

Thanks Again!

ARE YOU OVERCLOCKING... if so make sure (if its a via based board - kt133) that you dont take the fsb over 137 or it will cause these kinds of problems. best bet is to leave fsb around 136 and use the multiplier. just a thought. good luck.

Just to let everyone know, I have solved my problem. There is a short in the wire as it goes into the mouse which causes it to quit working if you move too far left or right. I called Microsoft and they are sending me a new mouse since the Intellimouse Explorer has a lifetime warranty

Thanks again everyone!
