Hello,
I have an optical intellimouse explorer, and on XP it is not working correctly. Whenever I plug it in to the USB it will turn on for a second, then turn back off. The light at the bottom will light up, but whenever I pick it up it will turn off. It seems like XP will detect and then undetect the mouse. I am virtually unable to use the mouse. The mouse is not the "3.0" version. I believe its an earlier version. I tried updating drivers, but that didn't seem to work.
I heard that Microsoft has a lifetime guarantee on these. Does anyone know if I can return the mouse for a replacement? I don't have the box anymore though so I'm not sure if that will work.

Have you tried using the mouse with its adapter in normal mouse port. It sounds more like a usb plug problem than the optical mouse.

Be sure that the batteries in the mouse are good. This mouse chews up batteries at a good rate. When you get it working use a sheet of white paper under the mouse to prolong battery life.
