On my Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop, I'm running Intel ProSet wireless for my wireless broadband internet network.
Recently, the icon hasn't been appearing in my system tray beside the clock. It only shows up maybe half of the time.
My Internet connection still works fine, but the icon doesn't show up. Not an emergency, but annoying because the icon shows how good my internet connection is and alerts me if the connection goes down.
Anyone have any helpful ideas why it wouldn't be loading in every time I boot up my laptop?
Thanks a lot!

Start>connect to>.....right click wireless network connection choose "view available networks" Then "change order of available networks button. Choose the General tab and click "Show icon in notification area when connected". Their are easier way to get to the Wireless properties this is just one. If you dont want to use Microsoft to configure your settings disable the check box and set up the software for you card.

Thanks HM, but that isn't quite what I'm looking for. Much appreciated though.
I did what you described and it gave me an icon, but it's the wrong one. What you described gave me the general microsoft icon. The one I'm talking about is the specific Intel ProSet Wireless icon. It has the appearance of radio signal. A dot with three widening bars above it. And it's green.
Is this ringing any bells with anyone?

I am having the exact same problem, and was just searching on the web for some solution!! I did the same as HM described above, and I concur that this is not the icon I'm looking for. It's a green radio signal when connection is good, and changes from yellow to red as the connection is failing. HELP!! I want my icon back.
