Intel's High Definition Audio has been around for a while. XP probably supports it.

A took a look at your mboard manual, and the drivers page for your model, and I see no indication that you have the capability for Intel High Definition Audio on your mboard. It looks like you probably have the default SMC(?) built in audio.
The chipset supports it, but that doesn't necessarily mean you can use the capabilty on your mboard. High Definition Audio is a high end option - your mboard must have the proper extra cicuits to and from the chip, and an Intel spec jumper block on it.
I came across the info about the necessary jumper block that Intel defines for High Definition Audio on the Intel web site somewhere, maybe in a *.pdf, when I was looking for something else a while back, so the info about is on the Intel site somewhere. If you don't have that Intel specified jumper block, you don't have the capability.
