Hi i have been trying to install Sid Meiers Pirates but I keep getting the 1608 installshield error.. if i try to install it in safe mode i get the 1607 installshield error
I copied the contents of the disk and tried to run the setup off my hard drive but i got the same error. The disk does work b/c i just got it to work on my borthers computer but for some reason i keep getting this installshield error.
I googled it, searched here, did everything I could, but the error still persists. (did everything here http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108440
and here http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108340i read somewhere about using the wise installer to install it, how would i do this?
is there anyway i can fix this error or install the game without install shield?
thanks

Microsoft offer a little program that repairs/cleans your installshield. Download it here:
I hope this helps.

thanks demonking, thats what i already tried out...
musky i got that program but it seems it isnt used to fix installshield, it is more used for uninstalling stuff that has been installed with windows installer.. or am i missing something?
so far it still hasnt worked, any ideas?
i also just uninstalled norton system works because it had something about a script blocker and the error mentioned a script so i got rid of it (norton was corrupted n saying to uninstall anyway)..
thanks, any other help would be appreciated

I'm sorry, you're right, that program was for cleaning up Windows installer.
After doing several hundred SP2 upgrades, I noticed that on several of them, Installshield files got messed up. Particularly the "engine" folder was missing from the "Installshield" folder. I repaired this by just copying the "engine" folder from a working version of XP over to the "Installshield" folder. I now keep the Engine folder on a flash drive just for this purpose.
Go into "Programs/common files/Installshield and verify that your "Engine" folder is intact. You should have these sub folders under "Installshield":
Driver
Engine
Iscript
Professional
Webupdate.(If you have XP Home edition, you may not have the "professional" folder.)
If the "Engine" folder is missing, copy one from another computer and replace it.
I hope this solves your problem.

no luck man, i copied the whole installshield folder, error still persists... i then deleted the folder 8 under engine (thats the version of the setup.exe) and i ran ISSscript8.msi from the cd and then tried setup.exe again and no luck...
anything else i could try? is there anyone to install it manually with out having to use the setup.exe or without usin installshield?
