Hi all,
I had some problems with explorer which made
me to 'repair' Windows XP. All seemed to have
went well, but after the repair I am no
longer seeing my dialup connection. I have a Ethernet card also in the PC.I have been using dial-up on this machine from quite sometime.
If I try to create a new connection, the dial-up options are all grey'd out. The only option selectable is 'always on broadband connection'. If I select this, it says that it has already been configured for broadband!
I checked the modem status etc, and it seems to work. I can even dial a regular number using Dialer, so I suppose Modem is working fine.
If I go to Internet options+Connections and
click on 'Setup', I get an error message saying Remote Action Connection Manager (RACM) is not started because of a failure to start a dependant service. Then I went to 'Service' tab, found RACM and
tried to start it from there ... no use.
It shouws RPC and Telephony as dependant services for this, both of which are already
started. What can I do to repair this?
Or, is there a way I can 'install' Dial up networking again on XP?
I am using Win XP home shipped with my COmpaq PC.
thanks in advance,
-Chandu

had the same problem and this is what we did:
Start:Run:regedit
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SYSTEM
Current Control Set
Services
RasMan
PPP
EAP
when u get to this point u should see 4 folders
DELETE: Folders 25 and 26Fixed the problem right away. Go to www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/t1033409185 to see how many have used this solution and for other solutions.
Good luck.

Please read the following link in Microsoft's knowledge base, which addresses this very problem.
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;320558
If the above link does not work, go to
http://search.support.microsoft.com
and in the "search knowledge base" box, type in, "new connection wizard is unavailable". The very first article that comes up, titled, "Dial-up Modem or PPPoE option in New Connection Wizard is unavailable" is the article you want.Cheers,
Geek Brian
