Comment:

I am thinking about installing Win XP on my computer, but I don't have an install disk for my current OS (Win ME). I want to be able to get Windows ME back on my computer if necessary. I have the ability to factory restore my system, but I don't know if it will work once I install XP, or if it would reinstall ME when I did it. I have also considered dual booting, but I don't know much about that yet. I would appreciate any advice on how to install XP while still having ME to fall back on. Thank you.

ME is garbage! Why would you even think of keeping it?

I suggest doing a complete format and installation of XP. Just backup your data before starting this.

Another thing! go to the HP/compac site and download XP or NTFS compatable drivers before you do this or you won't be able to get online etc.

If you want a dual boot, the easiest (and probably best) thing to do is add a second drive and install XP on it.

To install it on your current drive would be pretty complicated. You would have to repartition your drive using something like Partition Magic.

Sorry, I do not check for private messages

Thanks ham30, thats just what I did. Works great. Thanks for standing up for my operating system, betty, it has always worked great for me. It's just that there are some programs that have to have XP to run. Thanks everyone, for your help.
