I have tried 2 differnet Windows XP Pro CD's on this so I doubt it's the disc.

I have tried installing my OS to my new WD 250 GB SATA II 3.0 Gb/s hard drive. I have already inserted the floppy with the SATA drivers, I hit F6 during the Windows setup up, I load the drivers, and it just hangs on "Setup is starting Windows" and freezes there. Any thoughts?

Does your motherboard support SATA II? If not, you will have to move the jumper on the hard drive and set it to 1.5 Gb/s.
BTW, what is your motherboard model?

Asus P4P800
P4 2.4c @ 3000 Mhz Zalman CNPS7000A-Cu HSF
ATI Radeon 9800 pro
1 GB OCZ pc 3500 ram
Sound Blaster audigy LS

I FIXED IT!

For some reason, my sound card (Audigy2 ZS) and my 3Com 10/100/1000 NIC were conflicting. I removed those two cards and Windows XP setup went right into installing!

Have just been thro this process myself.
I took the following steps - eventually.
1. Went to MoBo site and discovered the SATA contoller - in my case a VIA P4M800 + VIA VT8237
2. With this info I then went to VIA website and downloaded the required drivers.
3. As per the readme txt, then copied all the files to a blank floppy - note you must copy the txxt files as they are required for your OS selection.
4. Install windows os XP SPxx, hit F6 and later make your selection for your device eg VIA P4M800 + VIA VT8237 - for XP.
5. Keep the floppy to hand, windows will now "See" your SATA drive and will load the required install files and minimum system drivers.
6. Your system will re-boot and you will use your floppy for the second and last time. During install, XP will load the SATA/Southbridge drivers - this time onto your harddisk along with the other windows drivers at bootup.

Good luck, hope this helps
