I am going to be installing XP Pro on a completely new comp in a few days time. I have an old version of XP, pre-SP1. What is the recommended order of updates? After installing XP is it better to immediately install SP2, or to install the drivers for each device then SP2?
So basically, MS updates then drivers, or drivers then MS updates?
Thanks. BTW I know how to install xp get my whole system up and running so I don't need any guides. I'd just like to know which is better option, or if it even matters at all.

I know that. I'm asking if I should install SP2 then things like graphics and sound drivers, or install the drivers first then SP2.
Thanks though.

My preference is to not hook up to the INTERNET until all the needed drivers are installed, I keep a copy of AVG on a flash drive and install that also. You can then download SP2 but I prefer to use the CD.

After you installed SP2, your PC not be up-to-date anyway because SP2 was released in second half 2004.
You will need to visit Windows Update site to download & install additional 90 or so hotfixes to be current.
Edited: Mine shows 91 post-SP2 hotfixes installed.

It probably doesn't matter whether you install drivers before or after you install SP2, but you must at least install the mboard main chipset drivers after the initial Setup.
E.g. there probably is not much if anything in SP2 that would affect video and sound drivers. From a standpoint of recovering from future problems you might have, you are better off to make a CD-R with both your original CD contents and SP2 contents slipstreamed onto it. Otherwise you may e.g. have to run a Repair Setup, then have to install SP2 again whenever you have major problems.
