i'm trying to install XP Pro on a second partition of the HD, this laptop has an internal floppy and an external pcmcia CD drive (freecom traveller not USB Think old style) it copys the setup files to the HD then restart, this loads up into the XP setup starts to load up the drivers etc then asks whether i want to install or repair, where i choose install where it says: "Setup cannot find a CD-ROM drive."

Can you access the CDROM from a '98 bootdisk boot? If so then can you not copy the XP files (the i386) to the hard-drive; then run install from there?
Incidentally what's on the first (Primary) partition; and why XP to the second (Extended?) partition?
