Alright, I just installed XP on my dad's girfriend's old compaq (couple years old) Now when the computer starts up, it still says the COMPAQ thingy and in the top left corner it says "1720-hard drive detects iminent failure", in the bottom left it says "F1 boot", and in the bottom right corner it says "F10 computer setup" (which takes you into the horible bios)
The provlem is, I can't get it to stop doing this. I went into the bios expecting there to be a silent boot option or something which could be disabled, but there isn't. So how do I get rid of it?
I used to have a computer exactly like this, and when I installed XP on it, it got rid of all the compaq startup stuff and didn't do this, so there must be some way to get rid of it, right?

Alright.... So is this imminent failure thing caused by the installing of XP, or is it just because it's a piece of s--- compaq?

As far as I know, Compaq doesn't make its own hard drives. Things simply wear out.
Call it the Maxtor mambo, Seagate Samba, or Western Digital waltz, it's time.

Damn, It's not that I really care that it's gonna die, I don't have anything on that PC, But I know I'll be blamed when it dies because I just installed XP on it.
