Installing XP on a refurbished HP Computer?

Specs: Windows XP
This refurbished PC has been working fine for several months. Then, all of a sudden, it started to go haywire. First, the Help Section disappeared. Then, I could not open Programs on the Desktops by double-clicking on them.

The farthest I've gotten is the Activation Screen, but the seller must have given me a bogus one, because it did not work. After furthering the disk package, it tells me the product key is on the disk itself.

Now, I cannot even get there, nor can I open the Safe screen. When I turn it on, even if I'm pressing F8, it goes straight into the Windows screen. It asks if I would like to Activate the product now? When I hit Yes, it goes to a Microsoft wallpapered screen, showing nothing but the blinking mouse

More than likely you picked up a virus or malware. If you can't get into Safe Mode to run a virus scan, create a Rescue CD, boot off it, then scan for infection(s).
