I have a laptop which seemed to have failed somewhere between \system and \system32. Awesome...

I've run several check disks off of utilities via my usb drive but these files are unrecoverable. I figure it could all work out if I could try to repair function on the XP install cd but the CD drive is dead...

Is there any way to put a bootable copy of an XP install cd on a thumb drive?

Koby, perhaps load the thumb on another machine and install it on yours?

I suggest that you replace the dead CD drive. At least try reseating it, if you haven't done that.
