trying to get xp home onto my mates computer cause his version of 98 was shagged. I formatted the drive for him, then went thru the installation of xp home using the cd and boot from cd option. Once it was finished installing, it rebooted, now it goes to the xp loading screen, the little green bar goes across a few times and then the screen goes blank, the computer stays on though. Anyone got any ideas? i also have an OEM xp home disc if this is of any help, im not too sure what it is used for. Cheers for ANY help. Martin

I have found that if youare using an old video card or older components ten Xp will have a harder time booting up while finding needed drivers. Try using bare minimum hardware to boot up and then add one at a time to find which it is.

The video card is only 8mb so it is almost definately not compaitable with xp, but i think that it is possible on board. Seeing as its the display thats messing up, im sure its the video card, is there a way i could disable the video card if it is infact onboard? Cheers for any more help

Almost all video cards are compatible with Windows XP. I agree with roamingphantom that it may be having a hard time selecting the proper drivers.

First, out on the Internet and do a search for an XP driver for your card. If you find one, copy it to a floppy or CD. Wether you find one or not boot the XP system in safe made, and manually select the driver, from the complete Windows XP video driver list, or if you could find one from the driver you downloaded.
