How can I install an OS (windows xp pro) onto a compaq d500 usdt. All the inputs are usb. When it gets to the part asking for input from the keyboard (hit enter) it doesn't recognize it. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

I remember back in college... My roommate had a Compaq. he tried installing Windows 2000 Pro. After installing, with severe problems, he called up Compaq tech support. They told him they didn't support Win2k in any way or fashion (including drivers, etc).
Before trying this endeavor, I would call Compaq tech support, unless you have to pay for their services, and ask if your machine is compatible, if they support XP, and if any warranties will be broken if you try installing XP on it.
As it stands now, unless you can use other keyboard commands, I would try getting a USB-to-PS2 converter and using it over the usb connection for your keyboard. That *MAY* get the keyboard to recognize.
Good luck.

I don't have the URL handy, but somewhere on the Microsoft site, you can check your system's compatibility for XP.
Do a search...I know the URL has been posted many times on this board.

Another idea is to create a script for doing an unattended installation. Microsoft provides a utility on the XP CD for doing this.
