I can't get xp pro to install. I had a dual boot system with win98, and win2000 pro working just fine. I tried to install xp pro and when it did it's first restart after copying files, I got a blue screen with a stop error:
stop: c000021 unknown hard error
\systemroot\system32\ntdll.dllI have since wiped the drive and tried to install xp alone, same error. Tried upgrading 98 to xp..same error. Is the dll bad, or is it an issue with my system?? Anyone have any ideas?
I have a WD40gb drive, voodoo3500 graphics card, 3com nic, pent3 600mhz, 1/2gb mem, creative labs sound card.

Problem is that its a microsoft product.
Could be your hardware at what stage does it give you this error.try take out your unnecessary hardware then install them later eg soundcard, modem,

I get the error at the same point no matter which way I'm trying to install. It copies the installation files and reboots, then blue screen. I can't even finish the install. I'll try removing some components. Thanks.

I think i know what's messing up your installations. You might need to go into your BIOS and turn off BOOT VIRUS checking. When turned on, this option stops windows from writing to MBR.
