My question is how do you install Windows XP Professional on a computer which does not have an operating system. I tried to do this by booting with a floppy made with WIN ME O/S and change the CD Rom Drive to where the Win XP Professional CD was, it said that it does not run from DOS. How the hell you run windows if you have not got it installed? It has confused the hell out me.

Please help. Thanking you in advance.

Just boot up with the CD in the drive, you can fdisk and format using that CD as well as install the operating system.

Thanks Goatman. If I am right I would need to change the boot up sequence from the BIOS so it will boot from the CD ROM, do I? Thanking you in advance.

Some XP install off of cd the CD won't boot unless the CD has xpboot.bin on CD, Also check that your BIOS supports bootable media

IE: CDRoms

You can also boot your system with a dos boot disk that can load a cd rom driver eg. win98 boot disk and go into the directory i386 in your winXp cd and run the program winnt.exe that will let you install xp in dos. It works for me.
