I'm not sure if you can do this...but I need to "downgrade" my Windows. Right now I have Windows XP, but if I insert the Windows 2000 CD, can I install it from inside XP? For some reason my computer has a problem booting from CD...and I don't know if Windows will let me put in an older version....Thanks in advance.

Hi Spade,

Actually, w2k is the upgrade.

But, no, you can't do it from within XP.

Read this:

Stay with it it untill you get a claen, bootable HD, then:

xcopy [w2k CD]:\i386 c:\i386\
[enter]
c:\i386\winnt
[enter]

You can install W2K with XP already installed. Simply boot with the W2K CD (or 4 floppies + CD) and install to wherever you want it to go.

It will disable access to XP in the process as the ntldr, ntdetect.com files from W2K do not for XP. Once W2K installed simply delete the XP installation, and entries for XP from the boot.ini. Once all up and running, empty re-cycle-bin and defrag the drive(s). Install apps. etc for W2K last.

If you wish to retain XP and have a dual-boot then first copy ntldr/ntdetect.com to a floppy (or save to the hard-drive in a separate folder). Once W2K installed overwrite/replace the W2K versions of those two files (now on the c: root) with the copies of the XP versions you have previously made.
