I bought a computer preinstalled with Win XP. However, most of my applications are in Win 98 and I could not use/install them in my new computer. How do I install Win 98 or ME in preinstalled Win XP OS? I could not locate my CD-ROM drive in DOS, so installing through DOS is not an option. I could not even run fdisk in Win XP. Any suggestions? I want to have both Win XP and 98 in my computer! Thanks a lot!!

well, you have lots of options here :)

have you got a 2nd hard drive? ... you can use partition magic to partition your existing drive, the i suggest to use a boot manager, that allows you to hide the XP partition (or look up the 1000s of web sites about dual boot), then install windows ME ... make sure you have all the ME drivers for your hardware handy (at least the modem drivers :) ... and consider the usage of a drive cloning program, in case something goes wrong ...

Use a win98 boot disk and start with cdrom support to get the cdrom to work in dos.
You shoud keep winxp and find updates for the 98 stuff that doesn't work. Winxp is much better, keep it.

I don't understand. If your programs are Win98 programs you can't load them from DOS. They should load fine in XP. I've even loaded some programs that were from Win 3.1 with no problems. Once laoded if you have problems running them you can right click on the executible file. Select properties and then select the compatability tab. Check the box, Run in compatability mode. Then select Win98/ME.

go to bootdisk.com and download the 6-disk winXP bootdiskettes that should make it so you can run the cdroms in "dos"
