Installing RAM

Hi. Is there a special way to instal RAM or something? like a specific part you are not suppost to touch? cause when I took out my RAM and put it back in, my computer dosnt recognize it anymore. When i turn it on my computer beeps for about 10 seconds, stops for like 5 seconds then beeps again.

You have to handle it gently and try to keep you fingers from touching the contacts. It depends on the rack you have, but most seem to go straight in and then lock into place, slightly out of straight in. There are generally a little clamp at each end that the stick snaps into. Be sure the sticks are well seated. Don't force them.

Many people use anti-static wrist straps. I usually just ground myself to the computer before touching anything inside. Remove the RAM again and reseat it, making sure it is in fully. You should feel it fit into place and the retainers at the ends should pop up and lock on the RAM modules.

The beeping is letting you know there is not sufficent ram to run the computer (ie you pulled the ram out hehe). You got to make sure your aligning the ram up with the dimm slot. You must also push it in and make sure its secure.

I'm sure its in but its still not working. If I do it on a carpet without grounding myself, will that effect it?
