Installing os(XP) onto a usb card

February 28, 2008 at 06:54:46
Specs: MCE, 1.8

Is it possible to run XP Pro off a usb flash drive. I see that they are getting quite big and do have my eye on a 8Gig usb flash card.

Yknow, the one that advertises to be able to plug into a USB 2.0 port as a storage device.

Well I am wondering if it is at all posible to load and run the os off this device without having any problems when taking it out for security reasons.

Any helpful ideas and suggestions would be helpful.

The biggest drawback is Flash Media has limited read/writes when compared to IDE/SATA Drives.

You need to be looking at Solid State Drives:

MS doesn't really want you to do that. It is not an easy task. Not worth the trouble unless you have plenty of time.

Barts people did a PE2USB script.

The instruction for the read write usually confg stuff to reduce that effect.

Almost every linux distro has a simple howto on that.

Some USB devices are real stinkers to get to boot too.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

I mean, as it is I average a fresh reload at least once a month...

I keep getting either a virus or my settings get altered somehow so that the computer, wich is a new laptop, runs slower than my old 486.

Know what I mean?
