I am trying to install NSW 2002 onto XP Home pc. I select Complete install, and off it starts. When it gets to updating the registry in each part of the install I receive an error -12 unable to update registry. What am I doing wrong or do I need to do to correct this, so that the installation can complete?

Make sure nothing else is running in the background when you install, such as Antivirus programs and other oddball programs.
If that doesn't work, you may need to try running some things directly from the CD to try and fix anything that may be wrong with your registry.

You might check the Symantec KnowledgeBase on this stuff, they've got a fairly decent one and it may have an answer that's simpler....

To clear out all traces of Norton, the solution is to use SymClean. A program that is used as an emergency manual uninstallation tool that should only be used after you have tried to uninstall NSW using Add/Remove programs, or the Uninstall NSW option through the start menu options. Older versions of NSW must be uninstalled before NSW can be installed.

Why use SymClean?
Normally, NSW is uninstalled through the Add/Remove Programs applet in Control Panel (this utility is named Add/Change in Windows XP). In some cases the Windows utility will not remove all of the files and registry entries for NSW. However, SymClean removes the files and registry entries that are necessary for NSW to install successfully.

How do you use SymClean?
If Norton AntiVirus is installed, whether as a stand-alone product or as a part of Norton System Works or Norton Internet Security, then disable Email Protection and Script Blocking.
To download SYMCLN.EXE, please navigate to the following URL:
