Hi i just resently attempted to install two 1G DDR400 DIMM CL3 RAM cards into my computer, with the original RAM being a 512MB DDR333 CL 2.5. but when ive attempted to turn on the computer after restarting it, it refuses to start up. Do i need different RAM or am i doing something wrong. Thx

Most ram work better in pairs instead of having to different types of ram in there. Try to take out the 512 and leave the 2 gigs in their and see if it runs.

Go to www.crucial.com and make sure you put in the correct Ram, and in the correct configuration.

Have you checked that your motherboard supports the 1G RAM sticks? The scarce information I've been able to find on the iMedia 851 suggests that it's an older model (which may not support RAM sticks larger than 512MB).

Please let us know if you found someone's advice to be helpful.

Download a program called cpuz_145. It will tell you what ram is installed on your computer. Check with your motherboard site to determine the max. ram your system can hold or your computer manufacturer. The cpuz will determine whether it is pc2700 or pc3200 ram. All ram chips have this information on them and not all computers are backwords compatible. Cheers

Is the memory you bought brand name RAM or some cheap generic stuff? Where did you get it?

From what I could find, the motherboard in your PB is based on the Gigabyte GA-8SIML, which is a crappy SiS based board. The PB name for it is Columbia 5 or Columbia 5P. The board supports up to 2GB RAM but I couldn't find any mention of DDR400 being compatible.
