Hello,

I've read a bunch of articles that all say I should be able to install IIS on Win XP through the Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> Add/Remove Windows Components -> (select) Internet Information Server. However, I do not have an option for Internet Information Server. Is it only available on Win XP Pro? Can I download it (can't seem to find it on MS site)?I did install .NET...don't think that would've "removed" IIS and put it somewhere else.....any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

IIS is not included in Windows XP home. Here is an article on how to install it in XP Home, but it requires that you have the installation CD for another OS that has the required files (such as Windows 2000).

IIS is far from the only webservice out there, Apache (a major open sourse webserver), which has shown to be MUCH more secure, reliable, and faster has a version available for Windows, and the best thing is its free.

to get the latest apache http daemon for windows goto: http://httpd.apache.org/download.cgi and download the "Win32 Binary (MSI Installer)" (.msi is an install file that windows 2000/XP can run just like a .exe)

Im sure you can find an free FTP server on sourceforge.net, but I'm happy with bpftpserver (http://www.bpftpserver.com).

Hi guys,

Thanks for the input! If I don't have an installation CD, I don't take it that it would be available for download? The reason I ask is because Microsoft now releases the .NET framework free a version or two back. Thoughts?

Josh, yes, Apache is fantastic! I actually run a LAMP environment on my XP/Linux laptop. It's my day job two. However, I'm just looking to diversify the skillset a bit and get into, or, get a feel for .NET. The more skills the merrier, right? Well, I may need to learn it in the near future for a job anyway.

Have a nice weekend!
