I've jsut got an extra hard disk (western digital 10,000rpm), when i plug it in and pwoer up my machine the hard appears to be recognized in device manager and all my drivers are up to date the other SATA hard disk which has windows XP installed on it also appers next to it. However in my computer only my original hard disk is shown under the title hard disk the other one is not there??? (they run using silicon image 3114 drivers/controller).

you need to format the disk before windows will recognize it as a drive. right click on my computer and go to manage, then goto storage and under that disk magement from there you will see it and be able to format it.
