installing drivers/programs w/o admin. privil

February 1, 2011 at 11:58:25
Specs: Windows XP
If you don't have administrator's privileges on a shared computer, how can a user (without these privileges) download drivers/programs without getting a message stating that access is denied. You must have administrative privileges to install this driver/program. Please log out and log-back in as an administrator. But I'm not the administrator. I inherited this computer, so-to-speak but can only log on as a user. How can I change this, therby giving myself administrator's privileges or just be able to overrede this and install drivers/programs as they apply to me and my computer only.

You could try restarting in safe mode, see if the (normally hidden) actual administrator account is available - if it hasn't got a password then you can login with that, change your account to administrator, restart as normal.
