Hi, I had backed up my Sims 2 game a while back by copying each cd to a .rar file. my nephews scratched up my sims cd's and i want to install the sims onto my new laptop but the disks do not work....i burnt the .rar files onto a cd and put them onto my laptop. i have a .rar file for cd1, cd2, cd3, and cd 4.. i was wondering how i can install the game from these .rar files.. i click install in the cd1 folder and it will install about 20% of the game and then asks for disk 2 to be inserted.. i have tried burning the all the files from each cd onto a blank cd..(files from cd1 are all on one disk... files from cd2 are on one disk and so on...but this does not work... does any one know how else i can install this game just using the files on the computer without having to burn them? i have tried to put all the files from each cd .rar file... into one folder... i made sure i put every file into the right folder and it didnt work..... any help would be greatly appreciated... aqs confusing as this post is... i got a little mixed up writing it... sorry

Dewy333, can't answer your install question. Write them and ask what to do? Perhaps I can shed a little light on just what the problem is. All gamemakers are faced with the 'pirate' dilema. As a result, they put some sort of verification code (copy protection) on authentic parts of games that don't get copied correctly such as writing a specific bit of code in a specific location. During the copy process, the code gets copied, but the location is different, etc. The authentic software checks the location and if it's different, aborts. Figuring out what goes where is what crackers do. HTH. Ed in Texas.

Actually I tried copying my Sims 2CD when I first got it. I like to use the back up copy when I play games in case something happens to it and use the original as a back up. So I had originally copied the CD and then once it was copied to another CD. I tried running the program from the copy and it didn’t work. I contacted EA games and asked them the issue. And they adv that on some CD burning software you cannot do this. Nero which Is what I use was one of the programs. There was a reason they gave saying that I had to disable some feature on the CD burning program. But at this point I cannot remember what. You may want to contact them and see what they say..

This is just an update to my previous message. I did some googling on copying the Sims 2 game and there is a website called CD freaks. (if you google you can find it) you can also try here = > http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=108015&page=1.. They have a ton of info on how to make a back up copy of the game although it sounds pretty complicated.. .. but it is possible to do. So you can have a back up just in case your original fails or vice versa..
