ok a friend of mine gave me a new sata dvd/cd rw drive.i went to the computer store and got the wires to install it, but i dont know where to plug in the sata data wire.i dont know what information to supply.so describe what info u need if any and i'll get it for ya

Found the specs here http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/... and the motherboard here http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...

See the mobo specs for the location of sata sockets. The cd/cdrw currently fitted is possibly a pata on either Ide1 or Ide2.

Doesn't appear you can use a SATA drive as you have no SATA controllers.

How do i know what sata card is compatible with my computer? And even though i have sata ports i cannot use them on this project...why? Or, should i just get a ide adapter? And does anyone know where i can get a motherboard manual for my asus k8s-la (Salmon)And thanks for the info valerie it was very helpful

Just save the SATA CD drive for a future computer and buy an IDE burner. If you are in the USA then look at the link below. Drive are really cheap. An adapter would be almost as much and may not work. There are a number of them in that link that even have free shipping. I have had good luck with Lite on brand.
